Who do you REALLY blog for?

I am so in love with this quote. It really hit home when I saw this.
Often I find myself realizing that blogging and writing are very different things.
I read a lot of amazing blogs but, sometimes I wish writing about deeper things would appeal to a larger audience. I’ve learned that with twitter. Anytime I’m completely honest about my thoughts or anytime I express my feelings I lose followers. A lot of followers. It honestly doesn’t really bother me. It’s not a disappointment to ME.. but, at the same time I wish I just had more people that could relate to me. More people willing to read and write about things with more depth.
I used to write, a lot. I have notebooks on notebooks.. stashed away in one of my bottom drawers. I used to write 5 pages in one sitting if I was upset. Most of my writings are from when I was 14-17. I read some of my writings and I just cry. I’m amazed at the things I was willing to write about. I’m so inspired by my own writing. But, at the same time I’m completely lost. Where can I put this writing? Do I continue to just keep notebooks that I’ll stash away?
I realize I just recently wrote a post about why I blog. I don’t mean to repeat myself, if it seems like it.
I think it’s so easy to say, “I blog for me”… but, do you really?
Do you blog anything you want or do you make sure it’ll appeal to a larger audience?
Sometimes I get e-mails or comments from people who tell me that they read every post of mine. They don’t always comment.. but, the fact that people actually care to read my post amazes me. I have around 340 followers.. I know they don’t read every word I type. But, the fact that some of you actually care to read whatever it is that I type..
It amazes me. I want more blogging friends like that.
I’ve had blog friends who constantly contacted me all the time and now that they have more than 300 followers they won’t even respond to a comment I post. Honestly, get real. If I had 2,000 followers and someone with 56 followers told me they read my blog every day and really enjoy my blog.. I’d much rather be “bloggy best friends” with them opposed to someone who is a “big shot blogger”..
Let’s be honest. You’re going to gain more followers by latching onto a big shot blogger.. if they like you.. everyone will. I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t do that if you’re trying to become a big shot blogger.
We all love having a good number of followers.. again, I’m just being honest.
However, I wish I had some more super fabulous blog friends who shared a passion of writing with me.
Sometimes this whole blogging thing feels like Myspace. Remember people who were “myspace famous” ?
I don’t mean to trash blogging, at all.
I love it. Maybe for totally different reasons than others. To each their own.

  1. I think these same things a lot! I've only got a little over 30 followers (which is a HUGE deal to me...) and I only care because it's awesome to me that someone in the world cares what I have to say. Being a writer is all I ever wanted and blogging is a great way to "free-lance". You'll never lose me as a follower for being real or writing what's on your mind. That is all I use my blog for; To express who I am and what I feel. That's what it should be! Keep up the good work!

  2. I know what you mean. When I write serious posts people don't read/comment and it irritates me. I blog for me. I blog so people can read my writing and like I said, it irritates me when I have something I feel is important and people don't read it. lol. And I'm with Katie. Your blog is one of my absolute favorites! So as long as your writing, I'm reading.
    Happy weekend girl.

  3. Hey siser, I get what you're saying. It's funny though, I have actually felt that the posts I'm most proud of are the ones I wrote from the heart and the comments mean the most to me. Honestly, every time I get a new follower I am shocked that someone actually wants to read what I have to say.

  4. I try not to hold back. I really try to write about a current situation or something I'm going through. Majority of the time - I find it easier to do a 'quick' link up and go about my day. I think I'd rather follow a 'true' blogger who writes about real emotions & feelings then just a linkup - giveaway blog. It's hard to maintain such a large auidence. I started with writing how I felt & wrote from the heart. Most is just in the heat of the moment. I have a blog & a journal. I can write for hours too.. I have like 4 completed journals that I thumb through from time to time. I hope you keep your blog honest & open. I love that about your blog. I don't always find the time to flip through other blogs (which is bad) but I'm trying. I'd rather keep a small number then a huge reading base.. honestly. I don't know what inspires us to grab a blog & keep reading it all the time.. but I'm so thankful that it happens. <3, Amy

  5. I love reading your posts and posts with some depth actually appeal to me when reading blogs. I would love to be able to write like that, but I feel like I am a horrible writer and can't do certain topics justice in the blogging department. To hell with big-shot bloggers - I too would much rather have a small amount of followers who I personally connect with and have things in common with.

  6. i agree. being popular would be nice. but then again, that's not really the goal. my blog is sometimes a sounding board. and sometimes a virtual scrapbook - for me, and my family, and my kids one day. i'm over the idea of chasing a following. i just wanna be me. sometimes i wish i had started anonymously so i could REALLY vent and be honest about what's going on in the HERE AND NOW, but not have to worry that people who know me would come up and start asking me about it after they read my post. :/

  7. I'm a new blogger, seriously, like 4 days new! I REALLY appreciated this post. I was so worried about what I should blog about so that I could attract followers but that's not what I want. I don't want to worry about what everyone else will want to hear. I just want to be me and share my experiences, even if I have NO followers. :) Thanks again. You're great!

Now or never... (QUICK UPDATE)

I wasn't lying when I said that I wanted to get back into blogging. However, life took multiple turns and I've been too busy to sit down at my computer and produce a decent blog post. It can't hurt to fill in anyone that still reads my blogs, but might not closely follow me on social media. After TWO years of being single and not being into the idea of dating anyone, I'm actually in a relationship. I know at the beginning of a relationship it's expected to be in the state that you feel like you've never been happier. The difference is, I've known my boyfriend for 11 years. When we were young, we'd always act like a couple. We never had a "title" back then no matter how many times we reconnected. Seven months ago, he finally moved back home. I was so excited to have him back in my life. Then I realized that I wasn't okay with just being his friend. After about 5 months of blowing him off and him giving up trying to hang out, I finally ex...

Sleepy Momma

I did plan on posting this previous week and the week before.. however, I've been so incredibly exhausted and busy. I guess that's a great way of putting, welcome to mom life! To be completely honest, I'm so happy with where I'm at in life right now. Yes, there are things that are difficult to deal with and I know some of those things will always be hard. For a while I wished that I could go back well over a year ago and made a different decision. I don't wish that now because I've grown so much and gained things I could never give up. My strength, my motivation and my happiness is at an all time high. It feels amazing. In other news...  I finally got a kitten! She's such a sassy girl, but she can be the most loving thing at times! When she wakes up and I'm next to her or when I pick her up, she grabs my cheeks and kisses me.  The bottom left photo is a result of a playful kitty that needs her nails trimmed. If you foll...

Thoughts from an ex-blogger..

My desire to get back to writing has been so strong lately. I can't seem to figure out if I want to blog again. At the same time, I REALLY want to blog again. I've found comfort in my privacy. This comfort has made me uncomfortable with openly sharing details of my life. However, blogging always was there to provide me with an outlet to express my thoughts, feelings and emotions. The people I was able to connect with through blogging was always an incredible bonus. I didn't want to blog when I realized that people that I don't want to be part of my life were reading my blog posts. During this time I also stopped being active on Twitter and Instagram. I felt that it was unfair to me that specific people were able to catch up on my life via social media. There are many issue I face with returning to my blog. I need to allow myself to step outside of my comfort zone of keeping my life private. I need to be okay with the fact that some people, that shouldn't be ...
